Three presenters will give short talks about their nerdy passion, but there’s a catch. Each has 20 slides exactly and each slide moves automatically after 20 seconds using a Japanese format of presenting called Petcha Kutcha. A fourth talk will have comedians pretending to be experts in slides they’ve never seen before. The topics (in no particular order) are:
Andy Bullick – The Women of the Special Operations Executive 1939-45
Self proclaimed WW2 hype man Andy talks about the heroic and often tragic but always astounding achievements of the women of SOE – the unsung secret agents of WW2 and their lasting impact the Allied victory.
Hannah Hamilton – Mary Shelley and Other Romantics
Zealous literature enthusiast Hannah Hamilton discusses why and how the Romantic period authors put to shame any modern ‘romantics’. With particular attention to the pageantry and outright metal-ness of Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein.
Scott Redmond – The Wonder of Tapirs
Animal fanatic Scott discusses the wonder and joy of the tapir. From a overview of why they evolved to be so weird, to their cultural significance in South East Asia and South America, Scott will attempt to justify why he got one tattooed. Tapirs, they’re neat!
Nerd Off!
Comedians will present slides prepared by the host about a topic that is kept a mystery to them.
You can catch 400 Second Nerd Talks as part of Dundee Fringe at Sweet @ Keiller Centre on Monday 15th September at 17:20 (60mins). Tickets (£10) are available through the Dundee Fringe Online Box Office.
