What happens when a British brain meets a Mexican heart over Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy? Sparks fly—and not just on stage.

In this whirlwind, bilingual, 60-minute adaptation, two rival Shakespeare scholars are forced to co-deliver a lecture on Romeo and Juliet. One sees the play as a bleak tragedy; the other, a hopeful romance. Their academic bickering soon explodes into full-blown performance, using whatever’s at hand—a chalkboard becomes a church, a mop transforms into Juliet, and chaos reigns.

As roles blur and emotions rise, their rivalry melts into something else entirely. This is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen it: fast-paced, farcical, and unexpectedly moving.

Devised by Argentinian playwright Emiliano Dionisi and directed by Alonso Íñiguez, Out of Pocket blends clowning, metatheatre, and heartfelt storytelling. The cast—UK’s Felicity Ison and Mexico’s Eduardo Zucchi—switch characters with split-second precision, making audiences laugh, swoon, and question everything they thought they knew about love, language, and the Bard.

This is not just a show for Shakespeare buffs. It’s for anyone who’s ever argued over a story, misread a signal, or fallen for someone completely wrong—and completely right. In a world fractured by culture and language, Out of Pocket is a joyful reminder that laughter and longing speak universally.

Whether you’re a romantic, a cynic, or somewhere in between, this play will leave you breathless, bilingual, and maybe—just maybe—a little in love.

‘Playfully bringing Shakespeare’s timeless complexity, making his work both accessible and relevant to everyone.’
