Russell T Davis: ‘I actually said “Oh my god” Out Loud at the Twist – Some Masterchef Sh*t

Two men meet in a coffee shop, having previously only spoken online. They talk coffee, Laverne Cox, and Courtney Act vs Ann Widdicombe in the 2018 series of Celebrity Big Brother. The nervous energy between them is palpable. Is it a date? An interview? A hook-up? Guess again.

Once the true purpose of their meeting is revealed, Some Masterchef Sh*t leaves its audience with more questions than it does answers. Namely, ‘what the f**k are they doing, why the f**k are they doing it, and is it even f**king legal?’ Don’t worry, by the end of this “exciting, clever and original” story (North West End UK), all these questions (and more that you may well wish you’d never asked!) will be answered.

Beyond the laughs and the absurdity, Some Masterchef Sh*t covers topics such as consent, friendship, male mental health and sexuality. Last year, its premiere was described as “refreshing and thought provoking” by ILoveManchester.com.

Exploring the joys and challenges of life as a queer person, this play examines the impact of hook-up culture on one’s self-esteem and the struggle of trying to break out of a life lived by default. A tender exploration of the male need to connect and how far you can go in the name of ‘doing something nice for someone’, one thing is for sure – after this play, you’ll never watch an I’m A Celebrity eating trial in the same way again.

You can catch Some Masterchef Sh*t from August 1st to 9th at Jade Studio at Greenside @ George Street from 17:15 (60mins). Tickets (£15) are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
