Selina Thompson Ltd returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a work-in-progress showing of Bad Lesbians – a messy, provocative look at power, harm, and intimacy in queer relationships.

At first glance, it’s the fantasy of lesbian bliss: we’re good, everything’s good. Except it’s really not. Set in a domestic space turned combat arena, Bad Lesbians is a villain cabaret (think Kemi Badenoch meets Cruella de Vil) that explores queer intimate partner violence through a blend of offbeat humour and knowing discomfort.

As Haddaway once asked, “what is love?Bad Lesbians invites you to bear witness to Pumpkin, Cowboy, Angel and their emotional / feral support dog as they – sometimes literally – wrestle it out. Expect synchro choreo, red flags aplenty, and conversations we’d rather avoid brought very much into the spotlight.

Created by Associate Director and Lead Artist Toni-Dee Paul, and made in collaboration with artists Samra Mayanja and Liv Ello – the production marks Selina Thompson Limited’s first new work at the Fringe since 2017, where salt. received a The Stage Edinburgh award, and The Total Theatre Award for Experimentation, Innovation and Playing with Form.

You can catch this work in progress showing of Bad Lesbians at Shedinburgh @ Assembly Checkpoint on August 29-30 at 3:15pm. Tickets are available through the Shedinburgh Online Box Office.
