I normally write TV (Star Trek: Discovery, Monk), but I needed to tell this story… and only the Fringe could handle it.

When I was fourteen, I found out my grandma was in a porno.  I saw pictures in her “Book of Secrets” (that’s what she called it).  It was shocking but nothing compared to what I discovered when I found her book again after she died.

Drinking With Grandma is a darkly comic solo show about what I learned going through her book.  Set during a fake cowboy themed funeral, I take people on an investigative journey through Grandma’s secrets to untangle fact from fiction—and it’s harder than you’d think.

She claimed she was struck by lightning, could hear slot machines talk, and once out swam a dolphin who wanted to have sex with her.  Obvious lies, right?  The thing is, sometimes her most outrageous claims turn out to be true.

It’s a show that asks what happens when the stories you’re told about yourself turn out to be lies, and how we make meaning out of the chaos of family.

Directed by Tracey Erin Smith (Creator of Drag Heals) and produced by Shana Stein (director of The Boys, Jack Ryan, The Testaments).
