You’ve done the escape rooms. You’ve played the games. Now try escaping your own choices in Level Up! The Musical — a sci-fi comedy about three friends who log into an online game and spiral into a gamified hellscape of tokens, carbon credits and carrots. It’s Black Mirror meets Be More Chill but with jazz hands….
We poke fun at tokenisation, carbon credits, hustle culture and the attention economy — but the heart of this show is friendship. How do you stay close when everyone’s chasing points, progress and their own best selves? How do you win a game that doesn’t have rules? And why is your best friend duct-taping carrots to a wall?
If you’ve ever felt like the world is glitching, or like you’re trying to save it with no manual, this show gets you. Come for the catchy tunes and chaotic jokes. Stay for the existential dread in four-part harmony.
New Writing by Lucy Watson (not that one), and (soon to be) award-winning Julian Kirk, directed by the actual award-winning Patrick Wilson and Stamatis Seraphim.
You can catch Level Up! The Musical from July 30th to August 25th (not the 11th) at Big Yin at Gilded Balloon Patter House from 14:00 (60mins). Tickets (£15 / £13 Group of 5 / £10 preview) are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
