What Gets Better? is a daft and sharply honest queer comedy exploring the messy, heartfelt journey of Tomás – a late-diagnosed neurodivergent, nonbinary Colombian navigating life in the UK while transitioning on testosterone. Through a mix of stand-up, storytelling, and a touch of clowning, Tomás brings audiences into their world of awkward sex, identity crises, and the emotional weight of dysphoria.
The show dives headfirst into masculinity, mental health, and the loneliness of being far from home – all with exaggerated humour and raw sincerity. With catchphrases like “Every time I look in the mirror, I see a 15-year-old boi desperate to lose his virginity” and “I put the ‘T’ in Testosterone,” Tomás tackles complex themes while keeping the audience laughing.
Though not a political comedian, Tomás dedicates a moment in the show to address the UK Supreme Court’s ruling on the legal definition of ‘woman’ – offering reflection without preaching.
What Gets Better? is Tomás’s debut full-length solo show: personal, punchy, and painfully relatable. Every line comes from lived experience, told with a disarming honesty that invites audiences to laugh, squirm, and maybe even feel seen.
