The clock ticks and before you know it, you’re a thirty something year old accountant with no partner, very few friends and only a pet turtle named Mona Lisa there to discuss each night’s episode of Eastenders with. Your last date was awkward and you can’t talk to your mother about it because she might tell you that you’re too fat for a relationship anyway. You might not have all your shit together but you do have cereal, sudoku and a really comfortable arm chair. That is until the love of your life that you’ve never met shows up on your TV screen looking for a match.
This is a peek into the very little life of Candice whose desire to find love takes her from her comfortable home to a full on reality dating show. Despite warnings from her mother who believes her daughter is not ready or capable, Candice puts down the crosswords and goes after her dreams anyway, one blue dress at a time. But as the cameras and spotlights focus, mounting pressure sweeps over an already desperate Candice whose grip on reality loosens as the walls close in.
Prague based theatre company Limbo Pins arrives at Dundee for two nights only to present Self Partnered, a project written and directed by Raynar Rogers and performed by Magdaléna Škerenčák. Self Partnered is a charismatic love letter to lonely, neurodivergent people and a piece of work that tests the complicated nature of the relationship we have with ourselves.
You can catch Self Partnered at Sweet@The Steps Theatre on September 19th & 20th from 19:00 (70mins). Tickets are available through the Dundee Fringe Online Box Office.
