“Hello folks! Welcome to the?… Welcome to the Royal Botanical Gardens of Edinburgh!”

My Ex-Lover Turkey, a love letter to a country left behind, is making its world premiere at the Voila! Festival at The Space Theatre in London on the 15th of November, for two performances only, at 3pm and 9pm.

A Turkish immigrant in Scotland. Away from all the troubles in his country. Adjusting to a new life. He falls in love, puts on a kilt, collects donations at the Botanical Gardens, makes new friends, and slowly begins to feel like he belongs. Life is good. The weather is questionable, but life is good. There’s just one problem: his dad and his ex-lover, Turkey, refuse to leave him alone!

Caught between the country he left behind and the one he’s trying to call home, he finds himself navigating love, memories, identity and the strange business of starting again. How do you build a new life when your past keeps knocking on the door? And can you ever really break up with your home country?

Written and performed by Emre Arslanbek and directed by Turgay Korkmaz, My Ex-Lover Turkey is a 60-minute solo show combining storytelling, physical theatre, humour and live saxophone. Moving between laughter and heartbreak, the play explores immigration, love, identity and the universal desire to find somewhere to belong.

After all, how far would you go to belong?

15 November 2026 | Two performances only: 3pm & 9pm | The Space Theatre, London. Tickets are available through the Voila! Theatre Festival Online Box Office.
