REVIEW: Stanislavski Can’t Save Me From the Apocalypse, Living Room Productions, EdFringe 2026 ★★★★

Stanislavski Can’t Save Me from the Apocalypse is a love letter to drama school kids and was one of my most anticipated shows this Fringe.

When the world ends on the final day of Camp Theatre Kidz, 5 camp counsellors are responsible for over 40 of their campers to figure out, what happens now? This absurd comedy (told in reverse) of what happens when drama teachers are in charge of cleaning up after the apocalypse is a scarily relevant tale of the dystopian stories every Gen Z and Millenial in the audience grew up watching.

These five performers are experts at their craft, the sisterhood chemistry is real. Each individual connection to each character is specific and meaningful, with each of them holding moments and secrets from each other that makes these girls some of the most well-rounded I’ve seen in this short space of time. The ‘theatre kid’ archetypes are loud!

Cate Johannessen as Elizabeth is stand-out, a pocket rocket young Mrs Darbus with never-ending energy. Her idea to produce another musical during the apocalypse is insane, and we don’t find out much of her past – maybe that’s purposeful? Elizabeth will be the loudest person in every room, unapologetically herself every time and we love her for it.

Lydia Hopgood is the awkward, quietly confident but freaking out Claire Bear. People pleasers can relate. Hopgood takes on this character with the poise and delicacy of a girl who has still got a lot to learn in limited time.

Dani (Christie Griffin) delivers the LA-girl ethos of ‘take every day as it comes’ incredibly, and Molly Wolff’s Erika stuns onstage. Our resident tech Mary (Frankie Minnock) grounds the group and makes them face reality.

Overall, Living Room Productions leave us wanting to know so much more about these girls. What really happened to them before they arrived at camp…
