Fringe Classics Returns to Edinburgh with 69 Candlelight Shows at St Vincent’s Chapel
Fresh from making history in 2025 with the world’s first AI-composed piano recital — broadcast on Al Jazeera, no less — Fringe Classics is back at St Vincent’s Chapel from Saturday 8th to Saturday 29th August 2026 with an eleven-show line-up that spans centuries of music and more than a few genres you didn’t expect to see on the same bill.
Candlelit piano remains the beating heart of the company’s programme, with Einaudi’s Piano by Candlelight – ‘Spirited Away’, Debussy’s Clair de Lune, and Piano Concertos by Candlelight: Rachmaninoff 2 offering intimate, atmospheric evenings of classical piano. Jazz lovers should head for Rhapsody in Blue, while cinephiles get Hans Zimmer’s Hollywood.
Then things get properly mad and circus as Cirque du Piano puts three pianists and thirty fingers on a single keyboard. Hootenanny! brings Scottish folk sessions by candlelight for a proper sing-along. Maestro! offers a masterclass with Beethoven himself. And rounding out the season are three brand-new additions: Princess Diana: The Musical, The Great Gatsby – Songs of the 1920s-30s, and 007: Greatest Bond Songs – for your ears only!
We reviewed their Burns Night Hootenanny a “ripping good yarn” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — and this year’s expanded programme looks set to keep that streak going.
