Big hit from Finland comes to Voila! Theatre festival 2026! The show is unique, queer-spirited clown chaos combining dark clowning, drag and rock ‘n roll clichés spiced up by a Finnish humour – which is dark as rye bread in Helsinki midwinter.
Spectacle is a solo piece by award-winning Finnish comedian Minttu-Maaria Makkonen. It explores the imagery of stardom and fandom, and masculine charisma in a feminine body. It asks: What is a rock dream without music?
Inspiration for the piece are male musicians who think they are humble, deep and important… Well! They can be, we just haven’t seen that yet. Minttu has lived her 35 years long life with musicians without ever playing or singing in a band. Since clowns are able to do whatever – she wanted to take that position and … enjoy.
Spectacle is a rock god, your wet daydream, an A-minor-virtuoso, the wit of every backstage, a casanova, the guitar hero that every man dreams to be, an all-time celebrity, a cm-s*ing dk head…
The show was premiered this year’s March at international clown festival in Helsinki and after that it has been touring all over Finland. This is Minttu’s first show seen in London so be there or be elsewhere (crying).
You can catch Spectacle at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden on Friday 6th November from 9pm & Saturday 7th November from 3pm (55mins). Tickets are available through the Voila! Theatre Festival Online Box Office.
