Let’s be honest: not every show at the Fringe has to solve the world’s problems. Sometimes you just want to laugh so hard your face hurts.
And that’s exactly what I’m bringing to this year’s Fringe with Funbelievable! 90s Rewind, my 90s-themed comedy hypnosis show.
It’s a full-throttle nostalgia ride packed with the biggest (often cheesiest!) bangers of the decade, dodgy fashion throwbacks and the pure silliness that reminds you why the 90s were so damn fun.
There’s no political statement. Just people doing bonkers things on stage and an audience loving every ridiculous second of it.
I usually burst on stage dancing like an idiot, getting the crowd singing. I’m not afraid to look ridiculous – I embrace it. It feels fantastic.
Real, no-holds-barred fun is just as important as any meaningful message. When you give people permission to be silly, you remind them that joy isn’t just for kids. It’s for all of us.
Watch any child and you’ll see them make up games, pull faces, dance badly on purpose, and laugh uncontrollably for no reason. They’re not doing it to impress. It just feels good. Somewhere along the line, we forget that’s still an option.
Life can feel overwhelming. But fun is still here, waiting in the wings with its party hat on.
This Fringe, prioritise joy. Play, laugh, be silly. Fun isn’t frivolous. It’s freeing and essential.
If all else fails, join me for Funbelievable! 90s Rewind. It might be exactly what you need.
You can catch Funbelievable! 90s Rewind from July 30th to August 25th at Big Yin at Gilded Balloon Patter Hoose from 17:00 (60mins). Tickets (£16 / £15 conc. / £10 preview) are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
