Dating in London is hard enough. Now imagine having a Nigerian mother who is convinced that prayer, persistence and a little pressure will help you find a husband. Did we mention you’re already dating someone? Never mind, because your mother hates him.
Welcome to Kike’s world.
Love vs Fear (…and My Mother’s Prayers) is a funny, heartfelt, interactive one-woman play about love, dating, family expectations, and the complicated business of making your own choices.
Kike is a young British-Nigerian woman trying to figure out what she wants from life and relationships. But between modern dating, cultural expectations, unsolicited advice from her mother and a wealthy Nigerian aunty with questionable wisdom, finding love is anything but straightforward.
And here’s where things get interesting: the audience gets involved.
This isn’t a play where you sit quietly and watch someone else’s drama unfold. You’ll play games, vote, share your opinions and find yourself questioning what you would do in Kike’s shoes.
Behind the laughter is a question many of us know all too well: are we making decisions because of what we truly want, or because we’re afraid of disappointing the people we love?
Following a five-star run at Camden Fringe, Love vs Fear returns with all the humour, chaos and uncomfortable truths that make love and family so complicated.
Come with your friends, your partner or even your mother. Just be prepared to disagree on the way home.
Because when it comes to love, everyone has an opinion.
You can catch Love vs Fear (…and my mother’s prayers) at The Cockpit on Thursday November 5th from 9pm & Saturday November 7th from 7pm (60mins). Tickets are available through the Voila! Theatre Festival Online Box Office.
