Runner-Up Best New Musical – Edinburgh Fringe
At age 16, Mark Glentworth was accepted as the youngest percussion student at the Royal Northern College of Music, setting off a brilliant career as a composer and multi-instrumentalist. But at age 21, a sudden and devastating breakdown brought everything to a halt, plunging him into seven and a half years of total isolation, silence, and lost time.
SEVEN and a half YEARS is Mark’s extraordinary autobiographical solo musical detailing his descent into despair and his miraculous journey back to life through the power of songwriting.
Blending live music, storytelling, and unfiltered emotion, this acclaimed gig-theatre show explores the fragile boundary between brilliant creativity and mental breakdown. Honest, vulnerable, and profoundly moving, it showcases how music ultimately became his salvation, restoring his voice and his purpose.
Critically acclaimed as “a quietly extraordinary one-man triumph” (★★★★★), SEVEN and a half YEARS is an inspiring celebration of the human spirit, resilience, and the transformational power of art.
You can catch SEVEN and a half YEARS as part of Colchester Fringe 2026 at Three Wise Monkeys (Top Floor) on Sat 24 October from 5:30pm & Sun 25 October from 3pm (60mins). Tickets are available through the Colchester Fringe Online Box Office.
