Did Bumpo really just say that? Bumpo is quick witted and absolutely absurd.
Following their split, played by Franny Weed and Mahalet Tegenu, Sam and Eileen find themselves in a custody battle over Bumpo … their son?
He’s got her eyes and her attitude and both of their DNA, spiced with a horny cartoon character, brilliantly puppeteered by Chris Palmieri. Bumpo is a rauchy, gobsmacking theatrical treat exploring chosen families, love and finding a sense of belonging.
Sam, an aspiring writer with an “original” concept (not Dexter), and Eileen, who brought Bumpo home from the lab, divide a life down to a Turtle Tavern Trivia Championship Trophy. Weed and Tegenu gorgeously cultivate an impressive and brutally honest pair, lost in their love, swallowed by the pressure of the city. Expect laughter after wincing after laughter, as the pacey writing from Ben Loftus pierces through.
Bumpo is high-energy, adeptly manoeuvred by Palmieri’s full body, who is audacious and cheeky, bumping MDMA and throwing tantrums. His bonkers activity particularly with the dazed neighbour played by Cameron Bradford who drifts in unhinged is a ridiculous respite as the marriage disintegrates. A mere preview into the daily overstimulating lives of Sam and Eileen. Proud “boy mamas” to violent pipeline.
Bumpo is a heart-breaking couples therapy session, with the most out of pocket dialogue you’ve ever heard.
Recommended Drink: Milk from the teat.
Performances of Bumpo have now concluded at EdFringe 2026.
