Accept your invitation to a perfect world where plastic lids click, smiles almost never falter and microwaves hum with divine purpose. This is Jill’s Tupperware Party, the brainchild of alternative comedy trio Asparagus Mousse, made up of Coral Bevan, Ricky Hunt and David Alwyn. With their strikingly enormous foreheads and 60s bouffant wigs, you’re unlikely to miss them this year as they arrive at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with to drag you into a surreal alternative universe inspired by a paperback 1980s microwave cookbook.
We caught up with Coral and Ricky for a pixelated pint in a plastic glass, to find out more about what inspired the show and what the audience can expect.
You can catch Jill’s Tupperware Party at Belly Laugh at Underbelly, Cowgate on August 5th – 30th (not the 17th or 24th) from 14:35 (60mins). Tickets are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
Shay: Hi Coral and Ricky – your upcoming EdFringe show is described as an interactive comedy horror blending retro suburban summer camp with b-movie terror. Tell us what inspired the piece and what the audience can expect.
C&R: Hi Shay, the show was born out of Coral’s birthday party a few years back, she went with a Cult theme, and Ricky decided to bring along a paperback 1980s microwave cookbook. We were inspired! The party descended into an immersive cult experience where we resurrected the author and she instructed us to sacrifice our friend Neil with one of her recipes. The recipe was Asparagus mousse. Coming from an immersive and comedy background having worked for Secret cinema, Gideon Reeling etc we were constantly recreating cult-classics (Stranger Things, Moulin Rouge etc) we knew the original recipe to immersive theatre combined with comedy would make for a great show!
Expect a mix of Mars Attacks, The Witches, Stepford Wives and Midsommar. Unlike other comedy shows you are significant to the plot in our show. You are a fellow Jill. It’s the 80th anniversary of Tupperware and you are a Tupperware salesperson joining the annual convention. I hope your numbers are up this year Shay?!
Shay: How has the creative process been of putting the show together? Give us an idea of the journey you’ve been on with it so far.
C&R: In many ways this show has been bubbling on our brains for years and it didn’t need much for it to come out. We’re not new to comedy or immersive and combining the two just made sense. Over the years we’ve developed a creative trio, and over that time a process. A visual mood board helped ignite the story of this show and the word ‘Camp’ really helped us anchor the humour and tone of the world we built.
Shay: What will be the first thing the audience sees, feels, and hears as they enter the space?
C&R: You will see us, you can’t miss us. We have giant 60s bouffants and ENORMOUS foreheads. It’s the 80th anniversary of Tupperware and goodybags are dished out. A meet and greet ensues you/we are all Jill here. A giant portrait of CEO (also known as Jill) presides over us with her 1980s glamour-grandness as our theme song bubbles underneath the party.
Shay: What are you hoping the audience might take away from the experience, if anything?
C&R: A community of Jill’s. Once everyone is allocated a role to play, becoming another, becoming a Jill, it really is liberating! Join us and spread the word of Jill all over Edinburgh, and don’t forget ‘You’re in the company of friends!’
Shay: What journey has the show been on to find itself at EdFringe 2026?
C&R: We wrote the show over the deepest, darkest, depths of winter, when jobs for creatives are few and light is sparse. We have been previewing it over a series of WIPS and tightening the narrative. But, being immersive, a lot of the show is audience dependent and is shaped by you.
Shay: With EdFringe now just around the corner, what are you most excited for?
C&R: Unless we have been juped. We may have found accommodation in Edinburgh with a jacuzzi. So expect “Jill’s Jacuzzi Party” content on Instagram.
Shay: Given the themes of Binge Fringe, if your show was a beverage of any kind (alcoholic, non-alcoholic – be as creative as you like!), what would it be and why?
C&R: Bloody Mary – OBVIOUSLY.
Bloody, classic, innocent, and a miracle.
