We have all heard that phrase, “age is just a number.” Well International Beat Poet laureate 24-25, Fin Hall’s number is 73.
But that is no constraint on making your Dundee Fringe debut. In fact, it’s a perfect age to bring his very first solo performance to the public eye anywhere, with the performance reading of Act My Age. From the film of the same name.
In this show, the septuagenarian from Aberdeenshire, brings a performance reading to the Fringe in which he does more that reflect the fact that he is the age he is, he brings passion, compassion and celebration to a set that involves much more than just reading his poetry. The man, who is an internationally published poet and facilitator, also known as Like a Blot from the Blue, takes the step from being a publisher, filmmaker, show host and producer onto the stage for the simple reason that he can. Being profoundly deaf is dealt with in the show where he talks about how great the world would be if there were subtitles everywhere. Do not expect a cosy afternoon of reminiscing and nostalgia, he has no truck with the latter.
Here instead, he gives us his views, not as critiques, but with understanding and humour. And hats. And costume changes. Whilst reading.
Oh, and the occasional swear word (or 2 or…)
You can catch Act My Age as part of Dundee Fringe at Sweet @ Keiller Centre on September 14th and 17th at 3:50pm (40mins). Tickets are available through the Dundee Fringe Online Box Office.
