REVIEW: Pat Rascal: Space Gravy, Stolen Table, EdFringe 2025 ★★★★

After seeing Yorkshire come 12th in the 2012 London Olympics, little Yorkshire Yorkie Yorkshireson (yes, that’s his name) dreams of being not just the first Yorkshire person on Mars, but the first person ever.

Along with his friends Jorgos and Jon, Yorkshire dreams of creating YASA, the Yorkshire Aeronautics and Space Administration. He works hard, earns his qualifications, and prepares for the mission, ready to reunite this starry friendship trio and take a trip up to Mars. What follows is all kinds of nonsense, and it’s brilliant.

If you squeal with laughter only half as much as I did during this hour with Pat Rascal, you’ll leave happy. Even with a look, or a gesture, they were able to have all of us in stitches. Why? How? I couldn’t tell you.

There is something so silly and profound about Yorkshire’s desire to go into space, and when the Yorkshire puddings start flying near the end of the show, with the Interstellar theme playing in the background, there is a warm, heartfelt feeling around the room. Holding tenderness and hilarity in the same space always demonstrates a company with wonderful wit and intelligence.

Our most beloved Greek pair, Yorgos and Yorgos, brothers, lovers, who knows, are one of the many highlights of Space Gravy. There is nothing unfunny about massive crotch bulges, and lunging onto unsuspecting audience members in the front row. Kudos to Matt Blin for eating all that feta, I hope your bowls are keeping well.

I couldn’t help feeling a little lost when we were visited by a Nosferatu version of Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, but if you question anything too much in this show then you’ll never stop. Best just buckle up and see where the journey takes you.

If at any point you think Space Gravy can’t get sillier, funnier, cleverer (is that a word?), think again.
