The stories and songs of football terraces take centre stage this August as “You’re Not Singing Anymore” makes its Edinburgh Fringe debut. This evocative performance brings together football culture and folk music in an exploration of identity, belonging, and the power of collective voice.
Minnie explains, “This show is about football. It is also a show about folk music. It’s about the football songs we sing together on the terraces – about identity, family, rivalry, memory, and the football chants that connect us all.”
The production promises to be both deeply personal and universally resonant, weaving together the ritual of terrace singing with broader themes of community and cultural identity. Far from being a niche exploration for football fans alone, “You’re Not Singing Anymore” examines how collective singing creates bonds that transcend individual differences.
The original album’s success – earning a place among the Sunday Times’ top records of the year demonstrated the broad appeal of Birch’s unique approach to documenting and reimagining football’s musical traditions. Now, that same innovative spirit comes to the Fringe stage in what promises to be one of the festival’s most emotionally engaging and thought-provoking shows.
You can catch You’re Not Singing Anymore from August 1st to 16th (not the 10th) at 16:20 (50mins). Tickets (£8 / £4 conc. / £5 family) are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
