REVIEW: SUCCUBUS, Georgina Collins presented by Halfway Productions, EdFringe 2026 ★★★★

Blood and brilliance, SUCCUBUS brings horror comedy excellence to the Edinburgh Fringe.

SUCCUBUS follows a young woman, a Zillennial who finds herself overcome with an unknown illness. Doctors dismiss her as hormonal and she is lost, until she finds the cure, killing and devouring men. Though this is the only way for her to survive, she decided to stick to her morals, going out of her way to find the worst men she can to feed from. 

The show is is deliciously gory and brilliantly funny, though at times becoming overly millennial in its humour. Georgina Collins’s performance is enticing and powerful, being able to switch from funny to terrifying in a matter of seconds, playing both the awkward ditsy girl and the villain playing with her food. Direction by Grainne Robson brings this piece to life, delighting in the horror and creating a visual masterpiece. 

Towards the second half of the piece, Georgina Collins begins to explore the subtle sapphic nature of the character, in an exploration and admiration of another woman that serves reference to the history of lesbian villains in media, though this is not a key plot point, it was a beautiful addition and gave superb exploration of the character of Succubus. As she fell for another woman she began to take on this otherworldly confidence of her new form, and while she intended to stick to her morals, her priority became this other woman, Sabine, and Sabine’s priority became her. It gave Succubus something to care for, other than her own survival, and made her more well rounded as a character.

Despite this, I would have liked to see a further exploration of the character and her life outside of her development into a Succubus, or more so about how this impacted said life. The young woman was such an enticing character, it felt a shame that I left knowing so little about her. But this by no means took away from the overall excellence of the show. 

The design of the show is beautifully gory, with the show ending with Succubus covered head to toe in blood, however I felt that some of the props could have been altered to make this show more horrific. Even something as simple as putting some of the fake blood onto the miscellaneous limbs would have helped to add to the horror of the piece overall, giving them the gooey shine of fresh blood and providing additional shock factor when they are revealed, though I understand the additional mess this would cause is likely not worth the subtle detail it would provide.

SUCCUBUS is a comedy horror on par with the classics, so dress up in all red and get your tickets, this is not to be missed.
