Come see NYC Fringe’s 2024 BEST PLAY, The Trash Garden, making its Australian debut at Carclew House as a Fringe Fund Recipient!

Atlas and Evelyn are the last people on Earth, and a hilarious pair of clowns. They live in a wasteland of plastic garbage, inverting the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. Performing for the audience as a source of meaning, they compete in elaborate games and imaginary stories, using theatre and human connection as a refuge from climate grief and despair. A shapeshifting ghost haunts their games, appearing as the Devil, parents and children, and the spectre of David Attenborough!

Audiences can expect raucous laughter alongside deep examinations of the climate crisis, with excellent performances by internationally trained clowns. This is a life-affirming, humanist play that sends up the great plays of Western drama… think Waiting For Godot meets Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.

Critics praised The Trash Garden as one of the only climate activist pieces in the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe, calling it “★★★★ A deeply engaging tragicomedy for the end-times” -Binge Fringe Magazine.

“Cleverly integrates the audience to the importance of shared storytelling… With the help of shows like The Trash Garden, we can still resist what seems inevitable” – Thinking Theatre Magazine.
