Music’s fallen silent. She’s abandoned the human race, driving people to madness and ruin with her absence. Up in the Astral Plane, where all the spirits dwell, one of Music’s colleagues takes her to trial.
The charge: Music has forsaken her duties.
The evidence: A Girl in a Red dress.
This young girl has just gotten a big break as a singer, and it means everything to her. But singing in the big league proves harder than she imagined, and Music, her comfort; her friend, isn’t anywhere to be found. The two spirits watch this girl’s life spiral out of control as her dreams crack. She’s vulnerable, she’s needy, and if she can’t have music does she really have anything at all?
Part love letter, part hate mail to Music- and all she puts us through- this New Writing Jukebox Musical is where “Black Swan” meets “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Featuring songs from Queen; Pulp; Flogging Molly; Dropkick Murphys and more, this story shines a light on mental health struggles and has a word to say to every artist who has never felt good enough; every artist who has ever dealt with imposter syndrome and anyone who has ever convinced themselves that they can’t do what they love.
You can catch Songs Don’t Sing as part of Dundee Fringe at Sweet @ Keiller Centre on September 12th and 13th at 3pm (60mins). Tickets are available through the Dundee Fringe Online Box Office.
