REVIEW: Business Casual: Cowboys!, Stamptown Proudly Presents, EdFringe 2025 ★★★

Buisness Casual: Cowboys! is objectively funny, with silly millennial humour..

The piece follows the story of Levi Jeans, played by Jeremy Elder, the fastest gunslinger in the Wild West, who is out for revenge against the man who killed his wife, daughter, Borat and others. Hunter Saling and Cory Peter take the position of supporting cast, playing everyone from Levi’s child bride to a simple farmhand. It is fast-paced, silly and chaotic.

I found a lot of the references felt somewhat dated, with nods to Borat and Jackie Chan, and I struggle to describe the vibe as anything other than “deeply heterosexual”. I felt deeply out of place with the demographic of the crowd of this show and, though I didn’t read any it as offensive, there were multiple moments where the punchline was effectively “wouldn’t it be funny if two men kissed”.

This is not done in a way that is at all homophobic, made clear with jokes such as the gay horse being the same sound effect as the straight horse, because why would a gay horse sound any different?

Despite this, it was incredibly funny and enjoyable throughout, even if some jokes made me hesitate.

Recommended Drink: Pair this with a Pint, slid across the bar into your hand.

You can catch Business Casual: Cowboys! until August 24th at Upstairs at Pleasance Courtyard from 21:40 (60mins). Tickets are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
