INTERVIEW: A Digital Pint with… Venessa Peruda, on Female Rage, Liberation, and Anger Management

Venessa Peruda’s upcoming debut EdFringe show All the Rage is described as a hysterical commentary on the overworked and underpaid, tiring, objectifying, assaulting and suffocating anger that women experience. Framed as an anger management class, Venessa aims to make her audience cackle and conspire over the ‘truth’ that our anger is actually our most powerful emotion. We caught up with Venessa for a pixelated pint to find out more about what inspired the show.

You can catch All the Rage at Fern Studio at Greenside @ George Street from August 4th to August 9th at 17:30 (50mins). Tickets are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.

JakeHi Venessa! You describe All the Rage as a commentary on the ‘overworked and underpaid, tiring, objectifying, assaulting and suffocating anger’ that women experience – tell us about what inspired you to write it.

Venessa: Frankly Jake, I’m just so f*cking over it! I look at the world we live in and it can be so disappointing and heart breaking. Then that disappointment turned to anger. How did we get here? Who’s responsible? Oh, Patriarchy? Right. Can we topple this structure before it’s too late? When will we say enough is enough? Can women take the god forsaken wheel?!

This anger consumed me, and I had to let it out. I thought, what better way to process my rage than the best way I know how? Through humor. I wanted to rage out with other angry women and laugh about it. The more I studied and explored female rage the more I realized that I was really on to something. Not just about the righteous origins of women’s anger, but how anger and comedy are related, and how they can liberate us, literally and figuratively.

Jake: Tell us about what the audience can expect coming into the show, and what they might not expect about the show.

Venessa: The show is an outrageous and emotional rollercoaster. You’ll be fuming one minute, then cracking up the next. There will be group screaming, optional of course. The show plays as an anger management class, so there will be learning, supported by searing satirical monologues, characters and sketches.

To be clear, this is not a man-hating show. It’s a cheeky molotov cocktail hurled at the Patriarchy.

Jake: What are you hoping the audience might take away from the experience, if anything?

Venessa: A good time! Catharsis. I hope the women who come to the show find a new understanding and appreciation for their anger. I hope they gain the knowledge and confidence to wield their power with a healthy dose of humor.

Jake: With Edinburgh Fringe 2025 just around the corner, what are you most excited for?

Venessa: It’s my first time at the Edinburgh Fringe! I can’t wait to see it all! The magic and curiosity of the city, the festival mayhem, and the people! I love meeting new people. Oh, and my show proving to be a raging success, obviously.

Jake: Given the themes of Binge Fringe, if your show was a beverage of any kind (alcoholic, non-alcoholic – be as creative as you like!), what would it be and why?

Venessa: Molotov cocktail with a chuckle back.
