After two years on tour, Chop-chop! returns to VOILA Festival, where it premiered in 2024, for two nights only.
Written and performed by bilingual theatre maker Andrea Holland, Chop-chop! is a one-woman Spanglish physical comedy set in a shared kitchen. Spanish Andrea is hunting for her mum’s tortilla recipe and hosting her friends (that’s you). English Andrea has one simple request: send that email. Flipping between the two in a split second, Andrea turns one body into a full-blown double act, as their clashes over food, work and how to live spill into the room.
Expect high-energy chaos, larger-than-life caricatures, absurd humour and bilingual whimsy, with affectionate satire that pokes fun at both cultures. You might end up on stage or even taste some real food. Performed mostly in English, no Spanish needed.
At its heart, the show celebrates the beautiful mess of a neurodivergent, bilingual mind: procrastination and hyperfocus, social butterfly and awkward wallflower, never quite from one place or the other. It is also an ode to mothers, childhood memories and the recipes that carry us home.
★★★★★ “Had the audience in hysterics for the full 60 minutes” – Green Room Reviews
★★★★ “She inhabits each persona so vividly that it’s easy to forget you’re watching just one actor” – Pink Prince Theatre
Rational or emotional? Email or tortilla? Come and pick a side.
