We’ve Got Time is an onstage sitcom pilot about Dani, a young and reckless stand-up comedian with endometriosis has everything and nothing going for her all at once. She lives with her childhood BFF Molly, and Jarred, her college sweetheart. All of them attempting to navigate post-graduate life against an unforgiving New York City backdrop.
Dani begins to have doubts about her relationship, her career and her future… She doesn’t know what’s ahead and she is definitely not in control, but one thing she does have, is time.
We’ve Got Time is really what it says on the tin. An incredible sitcom written and starring Emma-Louise Lerner, it is a show that speaks to the experiences of young twenty-something creatives who are trying to have everything figured out by the time they’re thirty; it is so within their reach.
This incredible four-hander speaks to this experience on so many levels with queerness at its heart. It also testifies to the experience of those working in the Arts industry in a time where we’re not taken seriously by society at large, burning ourselves out and continue to work even when our body isn’t ready (cue the emetophobia warning). These topics are spoken with so much delicacy and experience.
Lerner stands out as Dani. The found family she’s got around her in her partner, her roommate and her coworker is a trope that we see so much in sitcom media but works every time. The connection and passion that everyone has for this project is so special to see.
The connection that builds between Sophie Isbell as Molly and Cassie Martin as Tasha is so uplifting and pure. Ben Paulk as Jarred is one that a lot of creatives can relate to: the person who gave up their passion to get a ‘normal’ job to provide for their partner.
As the only group member no longer working in the Arts, Jarred struggles to navigate this change. He speaks to the souls of those who watch him.
Production design by Kid Lerner is mesmerising: the hand-drawn illustrations throughout, including many easter eggs (personal favourites are the subway posters), in an age of AI proves that human art and mixed media is what makes theatre work.
Interesting to note that We’ve Got Time is a work-in-progress pilot written by Ella-Louise Lerner. After speaking to the cast, they’ve been working on this dream for a long time, so if you see the show you will get a first glimpse of what is to come from these young creators.
Catch We’ve Got Time at Greenside @ Riddles Court from August 17-29 (not 16, 23) at Various Times (55 mins). Tickets are available through the EdFringe Box Office.
