A D&D x Fringe favourite, Tartan Tabletop, are back for another year, improv comedy at a roll of a D20. Four heroes blunder their way through an adventure like no other – aided by the weird and wonderful Noblin the Goblin, played by a different guest star comedian every night (which at this performance was Charlie Vero-Martin) and another special guest of Kim Blythe, so, roll for initiative!
This totally unique adventure every show is one for the gamers. This one shot was set in a work where Jurassic World meets Dragons and Knights. The energy of the room proved that this was gonna be a fan favourite. While this specific session didn’t stand out to me fully, the concept and the players themselves were something special.
The comic timing between the regulars and the guests while the regulars taught the comedians how to play D&D in the moment was really funny to watch and whilst you can’t get into a full adventure in just under an hour, it was funny to focus more on the character side of story and watching everyone goof about with each other and imagine a ptheyrodapctl’s nose squished inside a knight armour instead of having the goal of a true D&D fight. While the ending felt to me a tad unsatisfying, every session is different, I just happened to land on one with a trope that didn’t appeal to me, but thats the chance you take!
