REVIEW: Scout Boxall: God’s Favourite, Impatient Productions, EdFringe 2026 ★★★★

If you’ve ever found yourself up late at night trying to sleep and your brain just won’t stop whirring with every thought you’ve ever had then Scout Boxall is about to tell you the ultimate version of this story.

Opening by introducing themselves, Boxall introduces who they are and some important background information that will become important to the story. Once established they begin with setting the scene of the LARP (Live Action Roleplay) wedding that’s taken them out of town. It’s in the first evening they realise they’ve forgotten their medication and as each hour of the night passes, they slip further away from who they are.

Guiding you through this story Scout has used the opening few minutes to work out where the audience are at and then how to adapt the show from there. Knowing when to end a bit once it feels like the audience starts to pull away or doesn’t quite provide the reaction that’ll mean they will go with the next bit. This keeps the show moving and feels almost tailored to the audience.

As the story progresses Scout begins put on more and more of the nun costume on that has been laid out. As the night descends and the costume becomes more complete the image begins to match how they are progressing further away from who they are. The dissent into visions of iconic women throughout history, Scout uses people like Joan of Arc to start discussing how we’ve perceived women as mad rather than mentally ill preventing them from getting help or realising their full potential.

Often these women are linked to God and they become martyrs or outcasts rarely accepted by the world around them. Scout feels it’s only because they’ve been born today that they can get the medication that would avoid the same treatment these women faced.

Although this is more storytelling than a comedy hour each new approach to try and get to sleep is used to dive into asides and delve further into Scout’s mind how they perceive themselves and what labels society chooses to put onto them in order to give them valve or a place.

Funny and moving God’s Favourite is a brilliant hour from Scout Boxall designed to make you reassess how you look at people.
