The Lolita Apologies is a one-act play written and directed by Talia Fossum-Wernick, starring Jackie McKenna and Alex Keane. It follows one woman’s search for an apology, as she confronts the legacy of Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita. This isn’t a retelling of the novel. Instead, the play explores what came after: how Lolita has been interpreted, distorted, and idolized over the years.

Through a series of imagined conversations with the famous men who have adapted Nabokov’s work, the play asks: Who gets to tell a story? What happens when the wrong people take control of the narrative? What is the cost of turning trauma into something “beautiful”?

At its core, the play is part personal journey, part cultural takedown. It looks at the cultural romanticization of Lolita,  and how that has shaped the way we talk about power, gender, and consent. With a simple set and intimate, audience-engaging performances, The Lolita Apologies is a sharp, thoughtful piece that pushes audiences to reconsider what we’ve accepted as literary genius- and who gets left out of the conversation. Stories matter, and how we tell them matters even more.

Catch The Lolita Apologies from August 1st – 14th at Muse at Braw Venues @ Hill Street from 18:15 (55mins). Tickets (£16/£14 conc.) are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
