A girl. A lost sister. A monster. A duel. And Rats — the only ones who remember.
When teenage Hanna descends into the dungeons beneath Warsaw’s Old Town to rescue her sister, she comes face to face with a petrifying monster. Meanwhile, on the surface, her mother fights a different kind of beast, trying to unite a divided community before fear tears the city apart. Two generations, two parallel battles: one below ground, one above.
Meet the Rat Squad — sharp-eyed storytellers with rock-solid jokes. Through their commentary, watch rumours spread, stories shift, and fear harden into history.
Inspired by the Polish legend of the Warsaw Basilisk, Basilitrix is a darkly playful new musical about sisterhood, mother-daughter bonds, the fear of those who are different, and the courage to question the stories we’re told.
The production features an international cast, a live band, an original score drawing on folk rock, jazz and musical theatre, shadow puppetry and Polish folk art.
Created by Polish theatre-maker Ida Wrona and presented by Out of This Crow Productions, Basilitrix comes to London as part of Voila! Theatre Festival, with support from the Polish Cultural Institute in London and Lewisham Polish Centre.
You can catch Basilitrix: A Family Folk Rock Musical at Upstairs at the Gatehouse on Wednesday 11th November – Saturday 14th November from 7pm & on Sunday 15th November from 2pm (90mins). Tickets are available through the Voila! Theatre Festival Online Box Office.
