Splitting the difference between the highly successful Springtime Prague Fringe, the team behind the annual festival are bringing four nights of comedy joy to the city’s cobbled streets, launching tonight as Fringe Comedy Nights. An international line-up of comedy stars are bringing a variety of acts to the table, so we sat down to have a flick through the programme and find out what’s in store for Prague’s punters this long weekend.
Amongst those due to perform include some of Binge Fringe’s recent Prague highlights – cabaret star, burlesque icon, and self-proclaimed ‘whoknowshowoldanarian’ Nana Funk returns with her smash-hit middle finger to ageism An Evening with Nana Funk (21st-22nd, 20:30). Binge Fringe’s Deputy Editor Moss Meunier said of the show “by the final bow, she’s got the whole crowd cheering for saggy skin, hot flashes, and the freedom that comes with giving zero fucks.”
Also returning is the nautical alter ego of comedian Mel McGlensey, part-boat, part-woman, all clown. Moss also caught Mel’s show Mel McGlensey is Motorboat (19th-22nd, various times) at Adelaide Fringe, noting “it’s silly, it’s raunchy, and it’s sweet, all wrapped up in the most absurd and thinly-veiled analogy about discovering your body.”
Other highly lauded Fringe regulars will join the line-up, including Goldie Majtas’ RANK. (19th-22nd, various times), a love letter to Goldie’s best friends through waiting at a taxi rank and described as “Waiting for Godot meets Fleabag.” Joining Goldie at the festival’s new Tequila Tales venue will be comedian Laura Quinn Goh, telling the autobiographical story of falling in love with a man on death row in Singapore and building a life around a prison romance that defied borders, logic, and fate in You, Me, and Your Prison Officer (19th-22nd, various times).
After the most recent Prague Fringe’s Festival of India, comedian Tarang Hardikar will be making his international debut exploring his unconventional childhood in If I’m Not Wrong (19th-22nd, various times), whilst Prague Fringe stalwart Simar Singh will be rounding up a line-up of acts from across the festival nightly in Best of the Fest (19th-22nd, 23:00).
Tickets for all of these events and more are available for 300czk (€12.50~/£11.50~) when bought in advance or for an additional 50czk on the door. Those staying in the city this week are sure to find Fringe treasures a-plenty in this short-but-sweet offering from Steve Gove, Simar Singh, and the team behind Prague Fringe.
