REVIEW: The Crisp Review, Adam Evans, EdFringe 2025 ★★★

This is one mans mission to make you love crisps again. Jumping between videos and stand up, this show charts one man’s journey from lockdown TikTok reviews of crisps to creating his very own crisps, which you get your own packet of at the end.

The show begins with a mockumentary of his time since his TikTok channel began; from meteoric rise to eventual downfall and controversy. These talking heads and little skits set the tone for the tongue in cheek style that then continues throughout the show. Which works well alongside the some of the more absurd bits of the show. When he gets an interview with the owner of Royston’s it becomes almost like an interrogation, exposing the dark underbelly of the crisp world. Highlights his ability to make tongue in cheek content with silly throw ago gags.

Around the 2/3rds mark Evans takes us through the beginning of his memoir which goes on over 3 pages and does start to drag. This is a bit of a recurrent theme with some of the bits, they drag on overly long and often do start to make you wonder when they will end. The bits themselves aren’t bad and do go well but by the end you do start to wonder when you will move on. Evans’s delivery grew throughout the performance as the audience got on board with his style but he did start of a little flat.

During the final video of the show, you are handed your bag of crisps that Evans himself had been involved in the process of making. In the video he looks genuinely emotional at the sight of his own crisps and having his name of the back of the packet. It’s a touching moment that really shows how much this man loves crisps and maybe this whole endeavour of his wasn’t a waste of time after all. I will say the crisps took a couple to get into but the flavour does grow on you.

For Evans this show is all about having the courage to have a go at any silly, ambitious or small ideas that you might come up with as you’ve no idea where they actually might lead you to.

It’s daft and fun, a must for any crisp lover. Let The Crisp Review take you on a delirious world wind tour of the crisp world and who doesn’t love a free bag of crisps.

Recommended Drink: A nice cold lager to accompany your crisps.
