Combining poetry and stand-up, this is a comedy show that’s not afraid to be political or even really and truly emotional. Bróccán Tyzack-Carlin creates a patchwork of observational satire, witty personal reflections and scathingly cynical takedowns of politicians and feeble celebrities alike in this hilarious and impassioned show about UK politics, the news cycle and the all-too-familiar whiplash between hope and disappointment.
Tyzack-Carlin is the host of of comedy night Everything Is F*cked and the regular fundraiser and showcase Poetry and Comedy for Palestine, and so it was exciting to see him thriving in his own full hour. His poems remain a bedrock of his unique, biting political focus and, for me, his haikus were a particular highlight. Through inventive use of a slideshow, interactive quizzes and an excellently acted theatrical scene, it is clear that Tyzack-Carlin has not set out to recreate your typical stand-up show; rather, he is reinventing the wheel with a fresh and dynamic approach to how comedy can be artistic, immersive and, of course, funny all at once.
I am ready and waiting to see what Tyzack-Carlin creates next. He relaxed throughout his set and, once settled in to an unpredictable and, frankly, odd audience, he wowed with an unstoppable momentum, confidence and vehemence. I’m not sure some of the lighter, personal anecdotes were necessary. The best sections were those which were unafraid to dig into the weeds of politics and get specific, so I would like to see how Tyzack-Carlin could refine the show to be even more specifically focused on his takes on the real political landscape. Tyzack-Carlin is always eloquent and discerning in his arguments, even when building to a punchline (regardless of his frustration about how it is increasingly hard to be nuanced in the political culture of 2026).
Good News! It’s Been Destroyed is a thoroughly enjoyable hour that puts a middle finger up to the idea of comedy needing to ‘not alienate people’. The bolder, the better as far as I’m concerned when it comes to Bróccán Tyzack-Carlin.
Recommended Drink: A Flaming Lamborghini – lots of layers, energising and on fire, of course.
