Absurdist Perfection. An hour of theatre that will have you on the edge of your seat and will keep you thinking about it for the rest of your life.
Jonah Non Grata is advertised as a retelling of the Book of Jonah, which it definetly can be read as, but it also doesn’t have to be, that is the beauty of this show.
It is a difficult show to describe due to its absurdist nature, Simon Kane plays multiple characters, loses his mind, stays in a Marriot, dies, comes back to life, guides us through the choose your own adventure book City of Thieves, and so much more. It is clear that every second of this show has been thought about in detail, and I enjoyed every moment of it. It is artistic and beautiful and indescribably enticing.
If you asked me the meaning of this show, I would tell you it means everything, but it also means nothing, it means whatever you take from it, and that is what makes it so perfect.
I have to admit, this is not something I ever would have gone to of my own accord. From the poster and description I would have chosen to pass it, but this show is unlike anything I have ever seen. It is an absurdist masterpiece. Go see this show, do not put it on a list, do not see if you have time, book it now.
Recommended Drink: Pair this with Sea Water and Sardines.
You can catch Jonah Non Grata until August 24th at Front Room at Assembly Rooms from 21:10 (60mins). Tickets are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
