Now in its second year, and in collaboration with Blemme Fatale Productions, 4 awards were given out this morning to celebrate the achievements, contributions, and quality of work presented by Black Performers at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2026.
Shows have been assessed by Binge Fringe, Fringebiscuit, Lovers of Black Theatre and Doing Black Things With My Black Friends. At a ceremony at 11am this morning at Pleasance Courtyard – Cabaret Bar, Binge Fringe Contributing Writer Lamesha Ruddock made opening remarks commenting on the importance of Black recognition systems and independent media in platforming Black voices, especially following the passing of Jason Arday.
We’re delighted to announce the receipients of this year’s Black Performers’ Awards as follows:
Black Performers Award Winner: ADEY ኣደይ
Binge Fringe said this show reminds us that being witnessed is its own kind of homecoming. Our reviewer described it as ‘the instantly welcoming, deeply humanising show we’ve been craving’, we’re delighted to announce the first recipient of this award is ADEY ኣደይ, written and performed by Bethlehem Wolday-Myers.
The award was accepted on Bethlehem’s behalf, as she could not attend the ceremony.
Black Performers Award Winner: Diary of a DL Trade
Binge Fringe said this show reminds us that laughter can hold what honesty alone can’t carry. Our reviewer described it as “hilarious and jam-packed” – we’re delighted to announce the second recipient of this award is Diary of A DL Trade, written and performed by Louis Utieyin.
The award was accepted on Louis’ behalf, as he could not attend the ceremony.
Black Performers Award Winner: Notes from a Narcissistic Negro and Other N Words
Lovers of Black Theatre described it as ‘a compelling show, well worth seeing, offering a powerful testimony of triumph over trauma’, we’re delighted to announce the third recipient of this award is Notes from a Narcissistic Negro and Other N Words written and performed by Elizabeth June and directed by Malini Singh McDonald.
The award was accepted on Malini’s behalf, as she could not attend the ceremony.
Black Performers Award Winner: JOSIAH

Lovers of Black Theatre described it as ‘a mesmerising and heartfelt piece of theatre that leaves an impression on your mind long after you have left’ – we’re delighted to announce that the final recipient of this award is JOSIAH, performed by Cassel Miles and written by Charles Robertson, and produced by Sandy McFadden.
