At a time when so much is uncertain, our hearts long to feel unbridled joy. Enter: Ann Miller, the beloved Old Hollywood dancer who sparkled in musical films such as Kiss Me Kate, Easter Parade, and On the Town, and who toured the world in productions such as Mame, Hello Dolly, and Sugar Babies.
Shake It Away: The Ann Miller Story takes place during the MGM Studios auction of 1970. As pieces of Hollywood’s history are scattered to the highest bidder, Ann must come to terms with the transformation of the entertainment industry and find her path forward. Revisiting Hollywood’s Golden Age, Ann taps her troubles away as she realizes that her greatest chapter is yet to come.
Featuring selections from the Great American Songbook, this love letter to entertainment is written by and stars Kayla Boye, whose critically acclaimed show about the life of Elizabeth Taylor, Call Me Elizabeth, sold out in the 2023 Fringe. The creative team includes Michael Weber (director), Tammy Mader (choreographer), and Linda Madonia (music director).
Shake It Away: The Ann Miller Story runs 1-9 August at theSpace at Surgeons’ Hall (Haldane Theatre – Venue 53) at 13:50 (50 min). Tickets are £11 (£10 conc) and are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
