REVIEW: Alexis Sakellaris: CHILD STAR (Work in Progress), Alexis Sakellaris, EdFringe 2026 ★★★★

From the star that brought us A STAN IS BORN! comes a brand new work in progress that is utterly oozing with glorious potential to be the Fringe’s next big hit. 

Shining a light on the abuse that comes with being on screen as a child, Alexis Sakellaris: CHILD STAR brings us a true story of their experience as a star of the German children’s television show Wir Rocken Barcelona, pitched as the ‘German Glee‘, which follows 6 teenagers and their real life experiences singing and dancing in Barcelona. 

This is a story of queerness, a story of the longing for stardom, a story of the inner scumminess of the television industry, especially around children’s television. Alexis brings this story through a mix of stand up comedy, visuals from the show, and live brand new songs which express their true talents. 

There is definitely more development that is going to happen on this show, and it would have been nice to see more of the darkness of Alexis’ own experiences on this show, and more development of that as an experience and the bonds made with their fellow stars, but for a work in progress, this show is fantastically sharp and well put together. Alexis is an amazingly talented and gripping performer and performed the show with utter power, power that has been taken back from the producers that used their talents to create what ended up being a fairly unsuccessful show. 

Alexis details the similarities between this and Glee, not only through their own experience, but through the world the producers created, or in some cases stole from Ryan Murphy. It would have been nice to see more of the music from the show, or even have some of the music from the show performed live, maybe even seeing a side by side example of how Alexis has improved as a performer from the 15 year old we see on the screen, but even without that, this show is one to watch out for. 

Alexis Sakellaris: CHILD STAR is a show that will be one to behold in its final form, and I for one cannot wait to see it in it’s completion.
