REVIEW: The Gay Divorce, Cecilia Corrigan, EdFringe 2026 ★★★★

Completely audacious, absurd, and stunning. This messy, delicious comedy follows a lovable, completely out-of-touch trophy wife as she tries to make her gay marriage work and boy, does it take a lot of work.

It’s billed as a romcom, but this isn’t so much a traditional story of two lovers as it is one woman learning to love herself. Our protagonist is a girly-pop influencer following ancient dating advice given by a witch as she tries to make her gay marriage work, but is rudely interrupted by the end of times. It makes no sense, and yet, it makes a lot of sense.

Who doesn’t want to marry rich and live life problem free? The performance lovingly parodies internet culture, reality TV, and the modern marriage dream. Our girly gets her dream partner, and the ridiculously enormous ring to match, but this dream house comes with strings attached. We’ve all seen, or lived through, a toxic relationship. They eat away at your autonomy, an this one is no different. Pushed to the edge and isolated, this gal just can’t escape the real world that creeps in to ruin her perfect life.

She goes from influencer, to literal worm, to a survivor and a badass divorcee. Her insistence on having a better life by means of ignoring any real issues with the world, is honestly somewhat relatable, but we all have to face the music eventually. This show has a lot of wild and freaky going on, with a c*nty Jesus who is super co-dependant, and a being beyond time who just wants to be one of the girls. It’s like if Barbie grew sentience, watched every season of Real Housewives, and opened a portal to the Twilight Zone. That is to say, it’s hard to describe.

Acerbic wit, stunning visuals, and hilarious characters. This is a really enjoyable piece, halfway between fantasy and a reality check. It has a lot going on, sometimes to it’s deficit, but I had an absolutely brilliant time. With gloriously comical performances that use a minimalistic set to full impact, this show is a labour of love that the audience can feel through it’s enjoyment.

I highly recommend you hurry on down to support this girly, she’s going through a difficult time and she really needs the support. Learn to live your best life alongside her as you enjoy this hour of outlandish, dramatic comedy. This show is an absolutely scrumptious pick this fringe. You’ll want to see it before it becomes the cult classic it is destined to be.
