We’re counting down to Prague Fringe by shining a light on a number of shows headed to the festival next week. Laura Lopez is the host of upcoming stand-up comedy show Prague Against Humanity. We caught up with Laura to find out about the card game-inspired show and its’ intriguing concept.
Catch Prague Against Humanity (A Stand Up Comedy Show) as part of Prague Fringe at Metro Comedy Club on May 27th at 22:00 (60mins). Tickets are available through the Prague Fringe Box Office.
Jake: Hi Laura! Tell us about the exciting concept behind Prague Against Humanity and what the audience can expect.
Laura: Hi Jake, Prague Against Humanity is Cards Against Humanity meets stand up. In round one, the witty comedians first deliver their most iconic 5 minute stand up set, and immediately afterwards they draw 3-4 cards which they answer with the most insanely creative answers. Round 2 presents the comedians working in teams to answer cards, but also the audience has the opportunity to participate and try out their hilarious answers.
Jake: The piece focuses on migrant life, Czech culture, and everything in between. Tell us what inspired a comedy show focused on those themes.
Laura: Drawing inspiration from the Cards Against Humanity topics, I thought about global topics that are understood, to which people have different and creative answers while also sharing a personal aspect of the participants. It really is just questions that I came up with that I would like to hear people answer.
Jake: What are you hoping the audience might take away from the experience, if anything?
Laura: I would like the audience to see that any topic can be talked about in a funny way, and they should notice that– although we come from different backgrounds and experiences– we are all human and through laughter we can connect.
Jake: Tell us about how the show has ended up being performed at Prague Fringe, and what you’re most excited for about the festival.
Laura: The show was chosen to be performed thanks to the team and encouragement of Metro Comedy Club, all of whom have made this possible. Thank you, Metro! <3
Jake: Given the themes of Binge Fringe, if your show was a beverage of any kind (alcoholic, non-alcoholic – be as creative as you like!), what would it be and why?
Laura: If my show was a beverage it would probably be a Long Island Iced Tea– bold, chaotic, and full of surprises. It may look harmless at first, but it hits hard, and misses a little bit of everything while going down smoothly.
