Even more than most magicians I love making reality misbehave.
That comes from my background as a physicist when everything was about understanding the immutable laws that govern our universe.
But since I hung up the lab coat and headed for the stage 21 years ago I’ve reveled in the opposite, making the seemingly impossible possible, and doing it right in front of your nose.
I particularly love doing all this at the Edinburgh Fringe, as a local boy it’s home territory, but as the world’s biggest performing arts festival it challenges you to flex your creative muscles.
And this year I’m taking it to the limits with Invisible Force – which blends cutting-edge illusion, psychology, audience participation and stories from the frontiers of science.
We’ll be playing with giant forces that have been with us since the Big Bang and the beginning of time – such as gravity or the electromagnetism which drives modern society.
But there are other “forces” at play in our world – ones that underpin our human existence love, desire, hope, fear, jealousy, curiosity and belief.
So, the show will be exploring the strange truth that our emotions may be every bit as powerful as the physical forces that govern the cosmos.
The idea is to leave you questioning where science ends, where magic begins, and whether there is really any difference between the two.
It will be huge fun and full of wonder.
Join us. Even better, come up on stage and join in.
Catch Kevin Quantum: Invisible Force at Ballroom at Assembly Rooms on August 6th – 30th from 18:45 (60mins). Tickets are available through the EdFringe Online Box Office.
